Linda Henry - Northern Michigan

Linda Henry NCCS Recording SecretaryI grew up in Western Nebraska attending nursing school in Lincoln, Nebraska.  I relocated to Oklahoma City in 1974 where I pursued the majority of my nursing career.  I furthered my education with a Masters Degree in Nursing at the University of Oklahoma in 1995.

I met my husband while he was attending his medical school at OU Medical Center.  After he completed his Radiology residency in 2002, we moved to Petoskey in Northern Michigan, where he is a Diagnostic Radiologist providing coverage for several area hospitals. We were familiar with Northern Michigan, having spent several weeks a year cruising Lake Michigan on my parent’s sailboat.

I have a stepson, grandson and daughter-in-law who live in Colorado Springs.  Bill and I travel frequently and enjoy sailing, power boating and living in beautiful Northern Michigan.  We share our home in Petoskey with a Maltese puppy dog named Crosby.

I enjoy reading, gardening, creating designer gift packages, spending time with friends and just puttering in my home.

My background includes:

  • Over 30 year nursing career (direct patient care, specialist in pulmonary care, case management, staff development, and care coordinator positions)
  • 20 year career as an Oklahoma Air National Guard Flight Nurse, retiring as a Lieutenant Colonel
  • 3 overseas deployments to the Middle East
  • Chief Nurse over Iraq and the Horn of Africa theater during my last deployment in 2006 & 2007
  • Transported & provided care to wounded soldiers in Northern Iraq, Bagdad and Kuwait
  • At my home base in Oklahoma City, as Officer in Charge of Staff Development, I provided both organizational & managerial oversight to a large section of both officers & enlisted personnel.  I was required to maintain specific & strict training requirements both on the ground & in flight at all times.

I have been a member of the Northern Michigan Christ Child Chapter since 2009.  I joined the chapter after my neighbor invited me to a luncheon.  My parents had just died within 8 months of each other so I was struggling with grief and depression.  I met lovely, caring women during the luncheon, and I knew this was the right volunteer organization for me.

Prior to becoming the Vice President in 2013 for a 2-year term and, subsequently, President for a 2-year term (2015 & 2016), I was involved with our Thanksgiving Project as the Chair, our Christmas Shopping Project, and our Layette Project. I will continue as Past President/Advisor for an additional 2-year term starting in 2017.
