History

The Christ Child Society Chapter of Utica, New York was founded in 1927 and was chartered in 1976.  The Chapter was founded by Monsignor Joseph May, who had the privilege of becoming acquaintance of Mary Virginia Merrick while a graduate student at the Catholic University.  He so admired her enthusiasm and work that he vowed if he ever had a chance he would begin a Chapter of the Christ Child Soceity.  In 1927, he organized the Utica Christ Child Society, in keeping with the vow he made when he first became acquainted with the work of Mary Virginia Merrick.  Monsignor May served as Utica's spiritual advisor for 44 years until his death in 1971.
